HHV6 Encephalitis in Children After Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation

چکیده
HHV-6 is a roseolovirus, existing in two distinct genetic subsets, HHV-6a and HHV-6b. Most infections are due to HHV6b. The primary infection normally happens during the first 3 years of life and the virus develops lifelong latency [1,2]. Typical symptoms as exanthema, fever, lymphadenopathy and cough resolve within a week. Secondary infections as e.g. bronchopneumia are rare in immunecompetent patients [1].

MR imaging of human herpesvirus-6-associated encephalitis in 4 patients with anterograde amnesia after allogeneic hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation.
MR imaging is typically obtained during the work-up of patients who have undergone allogeneic hematopoietic stem-cell transplant who present with unexplained change in mental status, amnesia, or seizures. Although the differential diagnosis is broad in this setting, the presence of T2 prolongation limited to the medial aspect of one or both temporal lobes with or without associated reduced wate...
متن کاملProlonged sinus tachycardia caused by human herpesvirus 6 (HHV6) encephalomyelitis after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation.
A 19-year-old man with Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia received an allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplant with unrelated bone marrow. On day 20, the patient developed impaired consciousness and disorientation. Examination of the cerebrospinal fluid showed 2×10(4) copies/mL of HHV6B. HHV6 encephalitis was diagnosed, as had HHV6 myelitis based on symptoms that incl...
متن کاملAssociation between CRP Level on Admission Day and Length of Hospitalization and Engraftment in Patients Undergoing Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
Background and purpose: Several studies investigated the role of C-reactive protein (CRP) during transplantation and inflammation, and clinical outcomes after stem cell transplantation. In this study, we examined the relationship between the earliest CRP level on admission day, and the first outcome after transplantation, myeloid and platelet engraftment, and the length of hospitalization in p...
متن کاملPediatric Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
The introduction and evolution of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) could be traced back to 1950s, to the studies on interactions among irradiation, covering spleen and bone marrow from it and injection of bone marrow cells. Today, HSCT is considered a well-established, effective and promising means of therapy for various malignant and non-malignant medical conditions, both in chil...
متن کاملEvaluation of Serum Interleukin-21 and HLA-C1 Polymorphism in Pediatrician Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for Early Diagnosis of Acute Graft-Versus-Host Disease
Background: Allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a strategy used for treatment of different malignant diseases. However, success of allo-HSCT can be hampered by graft-versus-host-disease (GVHD). Natural killer (NK) cells may play an important role in activating antigen presenting cells and subsequent activation of T cells. The main purpose of this study was the evaluation...
